The Rob Seals produced/engineered/mixed '$12.99' by Dave Potts was named runner-up to folk legend Janis Ian for Best New Folk Record in the 2009 Just Plain Folks Awards, as announced at their annual Nashville awards celebration.
The record features Potts' strong songwriting and flannel-smooth vocals, with guest turns from Kat Maslich-Bode (eastmountainsouth) on vocals, Sean Hurley (John Mayer) on bass, Paul Laques (I See Hawks in LA) on dobro, Beth Balmer (Tyler Hilton) on strings and keys, Ryan Brown (Jesse McCartney, Nick Lachey) on drums and percussion, and Seals on everything else. '$12.99' marks the third Dave Potts record that Seals has produced and recorded. "I love working with artists like Dave Potts," Seals remarked. "Great writer, great player, great singer, great guy. The only chore in this sort of project is sorting through all the good songs to select the great ones. Dave was so prolific in the run-up to tracking the record here in LA that in the time it took me to say the word prolific he probably wrote another song or two." The record sports a baseball song called "If I Broke the Record," penned before Barry Bonds put his name and an asterisk in place of Hank Aaron's as "Home Run King" and claimed one of the sport's most fabled records. This sentence used the same word as a verb and as a possessive noun, all the while utilizing one noun to mean two different things. Thank you for reading the news! |
