Introduction

From ADG Art Direction Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Greetings and welcome to the first completely open online resource for art directors, by art directors!

The Art Direction Wiki was established by the ADG Technologies Committee whose mission is to "further the art and craft of progressive film design through the comprehension and dissemination of all new or classic technologies whether digital or mechanical, which impact the vocation and future development of design for the moving image."

In this spirit, we've built this site as a tool for the art direction community to share information, better understand new technologies, and become better at their craft.

Most websites you go to are static — you just read them. This is a very different place. A wiki is a type of website maintained by the very community that uses it. What the wiki contains and means is up to you. As a general rule you should contribute content you think will be helpful or insightful to others, but even this rule can be broken at times. Interesting things will stay, and bad contributions will pass with time. Never be afraid to try something new, to edit something, to make your voice heard.

"There is a vast array of new digital and mechanical being introduced into the workplace at an exceedingly rapid pace. As design leaders in our profession, we are the first to initiate and disseminate the visual information that is central to the act of telling the story. In order to maintain our central role in the production process, it is imperative that we understand how these technologies will impact and influence our profession, which is the art of design for film, televison, electronic game and themed environment." -Alex McDowell, Perspective (2006)
